Whitehaven reaches safety milestones at Narrabri

Whitehaven Coal has celebrated more than 5000 days without a lost time injury (LTI) at its Narrabri coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP).

According to Whitehaven, the Narrabri CHPP’s safety achievement is equivalent to more than 13.5 years without a LTI. The operation also achieved five years of no total recordable injuries.

Whitehaven surface operations manager Ashley Howland credited the safety milestones to the safety and care demonstrated by the Narrabri CHPP team.

“Since we processed the first coal on July 5 2010, our team has operated without a single lost time injury,” Howland said.

“This remarkable achievement is a testament to the proactive safety culture we’ve worked so hard to build. Beyond the numbers, it’s also a reflection of how we look out for each other, ensuring safety is always our top priority – both at work and at home.

“This success is the result of everyone’s diligence, vigilance, and dedication. Whether it’s the crews operating on the front lines, maintaining equipment, or supporting operations, our commitment to safety ensures that we continue to thrive without incident.”

Whitehaven gifted an esky to each Narrabri CHPP team member to celebrate the achievements and the ongoing commitment to zero harm.

“While this milestone is a remarkable accomplishment, we know there is always more to do when it comes to safety and we must continue to work hard to look out for each other,” Howland said.

The Narrabri CHPP is located in New South Wales and currently approved to produce 11 million tonnes run of mine coal per annum.

At the nearby Gunnedah CHPP, Whitehaven celebrated 4000 LTI free days in January 2024.
