Sandvik debuts electrified blasthole drills

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions has launched electric versions of its entire next generation intelligent rotary blasthole drill range, marking a significant step in supporting the transition to sustainable operations.

The Sandvik range includes the DR410iE, DR411iE, DR412iE, DR413iE, and DR416iE, which cover hole diameters from 152–406mm, or six to 16 inches.

According to Sandvik, the iE-series combines the performance and reliability of its diesel-powered rigs with sustainability benefits.

“Sandvik iE-series drill rigs use the same modular platform as our diesel-powered rotary rigs but with the added environmental benefits of electrification,” Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions product manager rotary drills Nellaiappan Subbiah said.

“We now also offer customers the ability to convert a diesel-powered unit to a fully electrified version in the field. These innovative drills deliver superior performance, reliability and sustainability in the most demanding mining conditions.”

Designed to operate efficiently in tough environments, Sandvik’s iE-series is powered by robust electric systems capable of handling high-altitude operations.

The soft starter helps reduce the impact on the mine’s power grid, avoiding disruptions to other equipment, while multi-voltage, multi-frequency motors provide flexible operation.

Optional cable reels offer ample connection capacity to mine substations, simplifying setup.

Sandvik has ensured that operators will find familiarity in the DRi control system, which is featured across its whole i-series rotary drills and provides a consistent operating experience and simplifies operator training.

For hard rock applications, the rigs are equipped with a heavy-duty hydraulic motor or cylinder-driven chain feed system, delivering enhanced pulldown force, faster penetration rates, and greater efficiency.

“Sandvik iE-series drill rigs represent a significant leap forward in electric blasthole drill technology and provide rotary drilling customers a seamless transition option from diesel to electric,” Subbiah said.
