The convenience of EV charging on road trips, or even for normal city use, is going to get much better in 5 days in the US for Nissan ARIYA drivers. Following EVs from some other auto brands gaining access to the Tesla Supercharger network in recent weeks, ARIYA drivers are next in line.

Well, the reason is not that Tesla is letting EV models join one by one. The reason is that Nissan will provide North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters to ARIYA drivers starting on December 10. Though, they aren’t free — they come at a cost of $235. Here’s a video on these adapters:

“Nissan ARIYA drivers will gain access to 17,800 Tesla Superchargers within the NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network (NECN)1 beginning on December 10. The expansion brings the total NECN to more than 100,000 public chargers in the US and 25,000 in Canada,” Nissan writes. To be honest, I didn’t know or didn’t remember that Nissan even had something called the NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network, but it’s really just a hodgepodge of EV charging stations from different EV charging networks.

The NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network includes chargers from Electrify America, the Shell Recharge network, the ChargePoint network, and the EVgo network. Additionally, in Canada, add ChargeHub, FLO, Circuit Electrique, BC Hydro, and the IVY network.

You can order the NACS adapter kits through Nissan dealerships or NissanUSA.com.

Nissan adds that ARIYA owners can find chargers, including checking on charger availability, and pay for charging on the MyNISSAN app. “Users store a default payment method in the MyNISSAN app, then once at a compatible in-network charging station, simply tap an on-screen button to start a charging session within the NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network.” Nissan LEAF drivers don’t have as much capability, but they can search for charging stations via the app.

Which EVs will gain access to Tesla Superchargers next? I’ve already seen a Rivian, a Chevy Bolt, and a Honda Prologue charging at a Tesla Supercharger.
