South32 has appointed Sharon Warburton as a non-executive director. Warburton will join the board on November 28 and seek election by shareholders at the company’s 2024 annual general meeting.
“Sharon is a prominent and highly credentialed director whose appointment will enhance the board’s broad range of skills,” South32 chair Karen Wood said.
“Her extensive experience in areas such as commercial, accounting and finance, major project construction, risk management and governance will support the delivery of our strategy.
“I look forward to working with Sharon to continue our work to produce commodities critical to a low-carbon future, and doing so in a way that makes a difference to the people and communities where we operate.”
Warburton is a chartered accountant with over 25 years’ experience across the major project infrastructure, property development, and resources industries.
Warburton is currently a non-executive director with Northern Star Resources, retail conglomerate Wesfarmers and energy company Worley. She also serves on several unlisted company boards such as Thiess and the Karlka Nyiyaparli RNTBC Aboriginal Corporation.
She has previously held executive roles with Rio Tinto, KPMG, Brookfield Multiplex and Citigroup, and was previously a director with Gold Road Resources, Fortescue (formerly Fortescue Metals Group), Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility, Western Power and Barminco.
Throughout her career, Warburton has worked across Australia, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Warburton’s appointment follows South32’s long search to identify a director with strong skills and leadership experience in commercial, accounting and finance, risk management and governance.
