MinRes recognised for technological innovation efforts

Mineral Resources (MinRes) mine closure, rehabilitation and contaminated sites manager Celine Mangan has been named a finalist in the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME) 2024 Women in Resources Awards (WIRA).

The WIRA seeks to enhance the recognition and participation of women in the resources sector.

Mangan has more than 15 years of experience in technical and managerial roles and currently leads the MinRes team dedicated to optimising mine closure.

She also works to nurture the next generation of scientists and engineers through mentoring young female professionals.

Mangan is now one of three finalists for the WIRA technological innovation award, which highlights females who have created a technological innovation in mining.

“I am so humbled to be named as a finalist and represent women in my field of work and the wider mining industry,” she said.

“It’s important to leave a legacy that can drive real change. Everything I do is to foster a sustainable future for the mining industry.”

Mangan’s team has established MinRes’ first executive closure steering committee, developed the MinRes closure framework, collaborated with Aboriginal stakeholders to establish a seed collection training program, and executed the largest rehabilitation contract awarded to an Aboriginal business.

“Our team contributes significantly to reshaping the future of mine closure and rehabilitation,” Mangan said.

“We can’t fix everything today, but developing steppingstones to create a more inclusive and sustainable future within mining is the key to our long-term success.”

CME chief executive Rebecca Tomkinson congratulated all the finalists last week.

“CME and its member companies are proud of the growth in female participation in our industry over the past decade, particularly the increasing number of women occupying leadership roles,” she said.

The 2024 WIRA dinner will be held on March 22 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
