Micromine optimises CSA Cobar operations

The CSA Cobar Mine in New South Wales, one of Australia’s highest-grade copper mines, has improved its operations by integrating Micromine Pitram and Loadscan technologies.

This upgrade provides more accurate material tracking, better data reliability, and smarter fleet management, helping the mine run more efficiently and effectively.

With an annual production of approximately 40,000 tonnes of copper, CSA Cobar previously relied on traditional truck factor estimates, which lacked precision. By integrating Loadscan’s mine payload scanner (MPS) with Micromine Pitram’s fleet management system, the mine now has instant, automated access to precise volumetric data for every truckload.

The business improvement team at CSA Cobar played a key role in making this project successful. Recognising the limitations of traditional load estimation, the team led the push for a more accurate, data-driven solution.

They worked closely with Micromine and Loadscan to ensure the integration met the mine’s needs, focusing on seamless data flow, real-time visibility and improved decision-making. Their efforts are already paying off, with increased accuracy in haulage data and better fleet utilisation.

“The integration provides our team with direct access to accurate load data within Pitram, creating a reliable source to optimise fleet performance,” MAC Copper general manager at CSA Mine Robert Walker said.

“It improves visibility and reduces costs by eliminating the inaccuracies of traditional load estimation methods.”

Key benefits of the Pitram-Loadscan integration:

  • Accurate load data: Eliminates reliance on truck factors, ensuring real-time, precise volumetric measurements for improved inventory tracking and reporting.
  • Enhanced operational efficiency: Optimised fleet performance reduces fuel consumption, wear and tear, and maintenance costs.
  • Real-time data and visibility: A live camera feed integrated into the Loadscan scanner enables mine operators to verify material movement instantly.
  • Data-driven decision-making: Pitram’s dashboard provides real-time analytics on truck performance, load efficiency, and fleet utilisation, allowing for proactive adjustments and improved operational control.
  • Target monitoring and performance tracking: Operators can set and track efficiency targets, ensuring continuous improvements in fleet performance and material handling.

By reducing inaccuracies and improving visibility, the integration is helping CSA Cobar run a smarter, more efficient mining operation.
