Metso has received an order from Hindalco Industries for the delivery of a large integrated electronic waste recycling process facility to be built near its Birla copper unit in India.
Under the order, Metso is set to deliver three Kaldo furnaces, an anode furnace, an anode casting shop, gas cleaning, supporting equipment, and basic engineering for the plant. The new facility is expected to be built and commissioned within two years.
According to Metso, the new integrated electronic waste recycling process facility will be the first of its kind in India. It is expected to produce 50,000 tonnes of low-carbon copper per annum.
“We are excited and honoured to have been trusted with this order,” Metso vice president, smelting Jyrki Makkonen said. “Hindalco is the world’s second largest copper rod player and India’s largest copper manufacturer.
“The planet positive process to be delivered by Metso is energy-efficient and allows high metal recoveries. It also conforms to tight emission controls with zero liquid discharge.”
Metso defines ‘planet positive’ as products and services that are distinctive from a sustainability perspective, address customers’ sustainability needs, and build on its competitive advantages.
Metso’s ‘planet positive’ portfolio is considered to be more energy- or water-efficient than the industry benchmark, and is made up of over 100 products.
Earlier this month, Metso announced that it was launching a new plant to manufacture precursor cathode active material for lithium-ion batteries.
