Metso expands into India

Australian mining technology and engineering provider Metso has announced plans for significant expansion in Alwar, India.

The company officially opened new manufacturing facilities on Tuesday, September 19, with the aim of extending its manufacturing capacity of mobile track-mounted crushing and screening equipment.

”With the increased manufacturing capacity, Alwar becomes the major Metso site for increased domestic business in India and exports to Metso’s customers globally,” Metso aggregate business area president Markku Simula said.

“Additionally, significant investment has been made in engineering and research and development resources, making it one of our key global engineering hubs.”

After the extension is complete the total size of the Alwar factory will be approximately 340,000 square meters, adding 35 per cent more capacity to the factory.

Production is set to ramp-up to reach full capacity towards the end of the year.

The new factories are to host several sustainability-driven functions like automated warehousing, automated assembly lines, modern painting lines and 13,000 solar panels installed to enable increased energy production.

After the extension, solar energy will cover 85 per cent of Alwar’s total power generation.

The Alwar factory will also facilitate the manufacturing of several Metso Group brands.

In addition to the mobile Metso Lokotrack equipment, the increased capacity in India will be used for the manufacturing of mobile McCloskey and Tesab equipment.

Metso will also produce wear parts and pumps for the aggregates and mining industries at the same site.

This latest expansion follows Metso’s recent acquisition of Australian bulk material handling company, Brouwer Engineering.

Brouwer Engineering is a privately owned company in WA specialising in automation, control systems and electrical solutions for bulk material handling.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Metso’s bulk material handling services business in Australia, with potential to expand these capabilities globally.
