London, February 19, 2025 (Oilandgaspress) –-U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans for a sweeping set of tariffs targeting key European industries, including automobiles, semiconductors, and pharmaceuticals. The new levies to be set at 25%, will come into force in early April.

In response to a request from Asahi Group Japan, Hino and Toyota co-developed the trucks, and now there are five undergoing trials in Japan. One feature is the twin hydrogen fueling opening. Only a few stations currently offer twin hydrogen fueling nozzles, but theoretically, this should allow hydrogen fueling at double the speed. Reducing downtime is very important for commercial vehicles. Other issues remain, such as the limited cargo space due to hydrogen tanks and the price of hydrogen itself. In the field of passive safety, the first steps towards adoption in series development are now being taken. Artificial intelligence is finding its way into more and more areas of life. A simple formula applies to this: The more complex a task is, the greater the potential that can be leveraged by the targeted use of AI. “At Porsche Engineering, we started integrating AI applications into our development processes at a very early stage. Pilot projects thus convinced us of the great potential that arises when we combine classic development methods with modern AI,” explains Dr. Joachim Schaper, Senior Manager AI and Big Data at Porsche Engineering. The AI method that has already been tried and tested for side skirt optimization has been further advanced to aid design of the restraint systems. “The first project focused on training the agent and demonstrated the great potential of the applied methodology. Daimler Truck is driving the transformation of the transport industry towards CO2-neutral drive systems and is also relying on e-trucks in its own supply chain. Mercedes-Benz Trucks, with its four production sites in Gaggenau, Kassel, Mannheim and Wörth, is pursuing the ambitious goal of fully electrifying delivery traffic with production material under its own freight responsibility. Delivery traffic in Wörth is to be fully electrified by the end of 2026, with the component plants to follow successively. A significant part of the direct supply chain will thus become locally emission-free. Together with its freight logistics partners, the company is working on gradually replacing the daily deliveries with electric trucks.
The basis for this includes comprehensive route analyses with regard to existing and required charging infrastructure, economic considerations and feasibility studies using test drives. The aim is to transfer all the jointly gained insights into a new sustainable series production process. RIZON, Daimler Truck’s all-electric brand for the North American market, recently handed over its first dump body truck in Canada. The RIZON e18L goes to Villamar Construction in Victoria, British Columbia, and will be used on custom home-buildings projects. Additional 18 units will be delivered to various customers, among others to municipalities, rental providers and logistics companies, in British Columbia and Quebec in the upcoming weeks. “This handover marks a significant step for Daimler Truck in bringing zero-emission commercial vehicles to Canadian businesses,” said Andreas Deuschle, the Global Head of RIZON Truck. “Commercial EVs are no longer a future concept—they’re here, hitting the road and serving in communities across Canada.” RIZON Truck launched in Canada in 2024. The Canadian government is offering incentives for RIZON trucks based on their government’s incentives for Medium- and Heavy-Duty-Zero-Emission Vehicles (iMHZEV) program.
