EVIQO, or Electric Vehicle IQ Organization, was founded by EV enthusiasts who sought to address shortcomings they perceived in existing chargers. EVIQO employed a data-driven approach, surveying 1,800 EV owners, analyzing 12,000 charger reviews, and conducting focus groups. This research informed the design and development of the EVIPOWER.
The company claims its product surpasses competitors like Tesla and ChargePoint in several key areas. These include longer input and output cables, a more robust connector design, a higher enclosure rating (NEMA 4), and a separate cable holster for storage. EV expert Tom Molouhney reportedly gave the EVIPOWER a 98-point rating in a review.
This EVIQO Level 2 EV Charger is offering both plug-in and hardwired versions of electric vehicle charging technology tailored to meet diverse user needs. With a focus on efficiency, safety, and smart functionality, the EVIQO charger caters to a growing market of electric vehicle owners seeking reliable home charging solutions.
The plug-in version of the EVIQO charger is designed for ease of use and installation. It features a NEMA 14-50 plug, allowing users to connect it directly to an existing outlet. This setup is particularly advantageous for those who may not want to commit to a permanent installation or who require flexibility in their charging station’s location. Out of the box, the plug-in charger operates at a default setting of 40 amps, providing approximately 38 miles of range per hour. Users can easily adjust the amperage in 1-amp increments through the accompanying EVIQO app or via an internal dip switch, which allows for customization based on their specific electrical system capabilities.
In contrast, the hardwired version of the EVIQO charger is intended for users looking for maximum performance and efficiency. This version requires installation by a licensed electrician, as it must be connected to a dedicated circuit capable of supporting at least 60 amps to unlock its full potential of 48 amps (11.5 kW). When hardwired, the charger can deliver up to 50 miles of range per hour, making it ideal for those who frequently use their electric vehicles and need faster charging capabilities. The hardwired option also includes an internal switch that allows users to toggle between different amperage settings (16A, 32A, 40A, and 48A), providing flexibility while ensuring compliance with electrical codes that recommend an 80% load on circuits.
Both versions are equipped with a 25-foot charging cable, offering ample reach for various parking configurations. The design emphasizes durability and safety; both models are compliant with UL standards and certified by ETL and Energy Star. They are built to withstand harsh weather conditions with an IP66 rating, ensuring protection against dust and water ingress, making them suitable for outdoor installations.
Safety is a paramount concern with electric vehicle chargers, and the EVIQO models incorporate several protective features. These include overcurrent protection, current leakage detection, overvoltage protection, and surge protection. Such comprehensive safety mechanisms ensure that users can charge their vehicles without worrying about potential hazards. Additionally, the chargers have undergone rigorous testing for water resistance, freezing conditions, dust exposure, UV radiation, humidity, aging, heating, vibration, fault detection, and drop tests before reaching consumers.
The smart functionality of both versions is another highlight. The EVIQO app allows users to monitor energy consumption in real-time and set charging schedules to take advantage of off-peak electricity rates. This feature not only promotes cost savings but also enhances the overall user experience by providing insights into charging habits and efficiency.
EVIQO founder Yuriy Dobosh emphasized the company’s commitment to the EV community and user satisfaction, highlighting the data-driven development process and the goal of creating the most user-friendly home EV charger.
Here are a few standout features of the product, based on feedback from over 1,800 EV owners:
