Saab has received an order from BAE Systems in support of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe for multiple Giraffe 4A radar systems. The contract value is approximately $48M (525 MSEK). Deliveries will start in 2027. Giraffe 4A will provide long range surveillance and Air Base Air Defence in a highly mobile package for the U.S. Air Forces in Europe. “Giraffe 4A is a multi-function radar that provides users a range of surveillance capabilities in support of comprehensive air defense,” says Erik Smith, President and CEO of Saab in the U.S. “This system will modernize the U.S. Air Force’s expeditionary combat airfield surveillance operations and strengthen sensing capabilities, addressing a critical need overseas.”
Giraffe 4A is a digital multi-channel system featuring the latest Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) technology and will be delivered from Saab in the U.S. and Sweden. Thanks to the Dutch SWiM grant, 10 new Dutch-made hydrogen trucks will be built and put on the road over the next three years. The Europa trucks have been developed by Delft-based zepp.solutions and will be realised within five consortia, set up in collaboration with H2 infrastructure providers TEAL, Green Planet Pesse and Fountain Fuel. The Europa trucks are based on Mercedes Actros diesel trucks and are designed with long-distance transport requirements in mind. The hydrogen trucks can be operated similarly to the diesel variants. They offer more than 700km range as a 50T combination, have a sleeper cab on board and offer the ability to tow 45ft containers on standard ISO trailers.

Solving the chicken and egg problem together
The Dutch SWiM grant, aimed at solving the ‘chicken and egg problem’ in the hydrogen sector, supports the development of vehicles and refuelling stations by subsidising them together. The goal is to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen in heavy transport. In 2024, the scheme had an available budget of €29 million. For 2025, the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management has announced a further increase in the subsidy ceiling to 40 million euros. . Read More


Egypt Participates in 26th GECF Ministerial Meeting in Tehran Moataz Atef, Undersecretary For Technical Office and Official Spokesperson – Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources , participated in the 26th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Tehran.

His participation was on behalf of Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi.

The opening session was chaired by Mohsen Paknejad, Iranian Minister of Petroleum, with the participation of a number of ministers and heads of delegations of the country members of the Forum.

In his speech, Atef addressed the most significant challenges facing the gas industry amid current economic and regional crises. He emphasized the importance of cooperation among the Forum’s member countries to effectively tackle these challenges.

Atef also highlighted the ongoing global reliance on natural gas, particularly in light of the rising energy demand driven by artificial intelligence (AI). This underscores the critical role of gas even during the energy transition phase.

Archer Aviation Inc. announced that it has entered into a multi-party collaboration agreement with key UAE and Abu Dhabi entities to advance the establishment of electric air taxi operations in Abu Dhabi.

The agreement aims to formalize the cooperation between UAE and Abu Dhabi stakeholders in preparation for the launch of the first commercial eVTOL flight. It was signed under the auspices of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC), in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs.

The agreement’s goal is for Archer Aviation to be the first manufacturer of electric vertical-take-off-and-landing aircraft in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and the first to launch commercial flying taxi operations in the Emirate. The Abu Dhabi Investment Office, a key signatory to the agreement, will facilitate coordination among Abu Dhabi entities in preparation for launch of commercial operations. Forming a robust ecosystem for eVTOL development, other parties to the agreement include Abu Dhabi Airports (AD Airports), Falcon Aviation Services, Etihad Aviation Training, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Global Air Navigation Services (GANS), Global Aerospace Logistics (GAL) and the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility). The collaboration outlines the roles and responsibilities of each party and lays the foundation for definitive agreements between Archer and the commercial stakeholders.
