London, January 26, 2025 (Oilandgaspress) –-A glut of new oil and gas projects, stoked by a pro-fossil-fuel agenda from the White House, could mean weaker markets in the future. Shell, is widely expected to deliver weaker profits this week when it unveils its full-year financial results. Shell warned shareholders earlier this month that its oil and gas trading results for the final quarter of last year were likely to be significantly lower than in the previous three months. Shell’s adjusted annual profits are likely to fall to just over $24bn (£19bn) for last year, according to the consensus view of City analysts. This represents a drop from 2023, when its full-year earnings tumbled to $28.25bn from a record high of almost $40bn the year before, when Russia’s war began. ExxonMobil, which reported a record $56bn profit in 2022, is expected to report weaker profits in its annual results this week. The international benchmark Brent crude averaged above $100 a barrel in 2022 as war broke out in Ukraine, before dropping to $82.60 in 2023. Last year, prices averaged $80.20 a barrel, despite an escalation of the Gaza conflict, with prices falling to an average of $74.40 in the final quarter. Read More
Rescue workers have successfully removed almost 1,500 tonnes of oil left on board a tanker that ran aground last year in southern Russia, officials said. The mishap resulted in a devastating oil spill that damaged miles of coastline along the Black Sea.
Two Russian ships, the Volgoneft-239 and the Volgoneft-212, were badly damaged in stormy weather in December, resulting in thousands of tonnes of low-grade fuel oil called mazut spilling into the Kerch Strait. Read More
Ukraine launched a ferocious wave of drone attacks across Russia overnight on Sunday, targeting oil refineries and Crimea. The aim appears to be to disrupt supplies of weapons and fuel to Putin’s army in Ukraine.
A major fire broke out again at the Ryazan Oil Refinery after it was attacked for the second time in two days.
The refinery is one of the largest in Russia, with a capacity to process 17 million metric tonnes of oil per year. Ukraine’s military confirmed it had targeted the oil depot in an official statement Read More
The BMW Group continues to push ahead with efforts to reduce its environmental impact. One example is plant intralogistics, with the sites at Regensburg and Leipzig now using fully electric trucks to transport parts – and sending out a clear message around resource conservation in the process. With the support of innovative charging infrastructures and partnerships with leading logistics companies, we are demonstrating that sustainable transport and production can and do go together. In Regensburg and Leipzig we use electric trucks to transport parts for the production of electric components, among other things. They move with zero local emissions, between the logistics halls and plants in the region.
Petra Peterhänsel, Plant Director in Leipzig, sees the use of electric trucks as a further milestone on the road to the future: “We are delighted to be undertaking this journey. The transition to electric mobility and sustainable production affects not just our BMW and MINI cars but our production method and supply chains as well.
” By using these electric trucks, Plants Leipzig and Regensburg are making transport more efficient and sustainable. And as well as reducing environmental impact, the vehicles help to keep noise levels down in the vicinity of the plants. To make its electric truck fleet more efficient and boost sustainable logistics, BMW uses advanced charging infrastructures. In Regensburg fast-chargers keep trucks in operation and avoid lengthy interruptions. The charging points are specially adapted to meet the needs of heavy-duty logistics, and being powered by renewables, they help reduce the environmental footprint as well.
This investment in an innovative charging infrastructure supports BMW’s long-term goal of a carbon-neutral supply chain and sets new standards in the industry. It also shows that heavy-duty logistics can be efficient as well as environmentally compatible – and could potentially set an example for other companies working to electrify their logistics processes as well.
