BYD continues to roll in rockin’ form. If you only look at recent months, February sales may look poor in relation to October, November, and December sales. But that’s how things go in the Chinese auto market — the end of the year is very strong and the beginning of the year falls off a cliff as people take time off for the Chinese New Year. So, most useful is simply comparing year-over-year sales. In that regard, BYD is doing very well.

Just looking at passenger vehicles, BYD’s new energy vehicle (plugin vehicle) sales grew 161.4% in February 2025 compared to February 2024. It scored 322,846 sales compared to 122,311 in February 2024.

Sales grew 93% in January–February 2025 compared to January–February 2024 (or 92.52% to be more precise). That’s huge year-over-year (YoY) growth when you consider the scale BYD was already at!

Just looking at pure battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), sales were up 127.5% in February — going from 54,908 sales in February 2024 to 124,902 in February 2025.

Looking across the first two months of the year, sales were up 56.2% — going from 160,212 sales in 2024 to 250,279 sales in 2025.

That leaves us with plugin hybrids (PHEVs), which are currently the majority of BYD’s sales. In February, BYD’s PHEV sales increased 189.2% compared to February 2024! They grew from 66,840 sales last February to 193,331 sales this February.

Looking across the first two months of the year, sales were up 124.2% — going from 162,555 sales in 2024 to 364,400 sales in 2025.

The above chart let’s you look at sales trends across all of the above categories from January 2024 through February 2025. The overall trend is clear, and 2025 keeps that up.

If you think all of this is impressive, though, just stay tuned. BYD’s commercial electric vehicle sales growth is even more impressive!

Full disclosure: I own shares of BYD. I have no intention to sell them anytime soon.
