BYD Cars Philippines is mirroring the performance of BYD globally, becoming the best selling new energy vehicle in the country. In an industry report it released recently, ACMobility, the official distributor of BYD passenger vehicles, announced a significant achievement in the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market.
The Ayala mobility solutions platform reported sales of 4,780 BYD passenger vehicles in 2024, capturing an 82% share of the Philippine NEV market. Of these, 2,078 units consisted of the BYD Seagull, Dolphin, Atto 3, T3, Seal, Han, and Tang models, giving BYD a 69% market share in the battery-electric vehicle (BEV) segment. The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i emerged as the brand’s top-selling model with 2,669 units sold. From its introduction in July to December, the hybrid SUV also led sales in the combined NEV and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) segments, holding a 19% market share.
This sales performance represents an 8,900% growth for BYD in 2024 compared to 2023. The company stated that this performance placed BYD as the 11th best-selling automotive brand in the Philippines, with a 1.0% market share. This growth surpassed several established automotive brands and other Chinese brands, according to the company. Globally, BYD also set a sales record, selling 4,272,145 New Energy Vehicles in 2024, a 41.26% increase from 2023, making it the “undisputed Global New Energy Vehicle Market Sales Champion,” according to the company.
“We are beyond thrilled to share our performance in 2024, marking a pivotal year for BYD in the Philippines,” said Bob Palanca, Managing Director of BYD Cars Philippines. “This achievement reflects the dedication of our team, the unwavering support of our dealer partners and suppliers, and most importantly, the trust of our valued customers. Together, we will continue driving the Philippines toward a smarter and greener future with innovative and accessible solutions.”
The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i held a 14.6% share of the overall Compact-SUV market in 2024, and a 25.9% share in the same segment from July to December, the company reported. BYD also sold 1,062 units of the BYD Atto 3, claiming a 35% market share in its segment. The BYD Seagull, introduced in September, sold 411 units and held a 38% share of the BEV segment in the last quarter of 2024 and a 14% share of the overall BEV market for the year.
“Together with ACMobility, we are committed to providing more Filipinos with BYD’s global models that represent greener and smarter mobility solutions as we continue to build on this success in 2025 and beyond. We are focused on sustaining this momentum by delivering innovative and affordable models for our Filipino customers,” said Aiffy Liu, Country Head of BYD Philippines.
BYD expanded its dealership network from two locations at the start of 2024 to 25 operational dealerships by year-end. The company has approved 52 additional dealer locations for 2025. BYD also conducts a nationwide “BYD Tech Tour” to showcase its electric vehicle technology and plans new model launches in 2025.
“The growing network of BYD dealerships and service centers and ACMobility’s expanding footprint of EV charging stations across the country are part of the dynamic ecosystem ACMobility envisions in supporting and encouraging the country’s transition towards electric mobility,” added Palanca.
