True North Copper has appointed a new managing director following Marty Costello’s resignation from the position last month, as well as a new chief financial officer.
Bevan Jones will begin his tenure as managing director on June 10. Jones has nearly 30 years of experience in mine operations and management across a wide range of commodities.
Jones’ previous roles include serving as Gold Fields’ St Ives gold mine general manager from October 2019 to September 2022, then Karora Resources’ chief operating officer from September 2022 to January 2024. Most recently, Jones was the managing director at Extra Mining Solutions.
True North said Jones has a proven track record in directing business improvement initiatives and operational transformation.
“These enhancements to our executive team reflect an exciting phase of transition for True North Copper,” True North Copper executive chairman Ian McAleese said.
“We are thrilled to welcome Bevan as managing director and are confident that his extensive operational experience will be a tremendous asset going forward.
“With our focus now fully on restarting mining at our Cloncurry copper project, we are excited to have Bevan on board and believe he has the experience and skill to help us achieve this.”
Jones said he was excited to join True North during a pivotal time for the company.
“I am eager to work with the board and team to realise the potential of our prospects, particularly as we set our focus on restarting mining operations at Cloncurry,” Jones said.
Costello will remain on the True North board as executive director – business development.
True North has also appointed Craig Gouws as chief financial officer (CFO), who has extensive Australian and international experience as a CFO. He has successfully led financial operations across a wide range of industries and international markets.
“We are also delighted to welcome Craig as our CFO and believe his experience in previous roles will be crucial as we advance our projects at Cloncurry and Mount Oxide,” McAleese said.
“His proven track record in financial management and business strategy aligns perfectly with our vision and goals.”
Gouws commenced as CFO on June 3.
“The Cloncurry and Mount Oxide projects are two world-class assets and I am eager to contribute my expertise and support ongoing operations, exploration and development in the future,” Gouws said.
