Iluka makes progress on Australian projects

Iluka’s December 2023 quarterly report has detailed its progress on its various rare earths and critical minerals projects across the country.

In Eneabba in WA, Iluka is progressing its integrated refinery for the production of separated rare earth oxides. The project is being funded via a partnership between Iluka and the Australian Government.

“Bulk earth works and ground improvement activities have been completed,” Iluka said in its report. “Tendering is underway for detailed earthworks and concrete supply and installation.”

Commissioning of the refinery is scheduled for 2026, with a full project update to be provided at the end of this quarter.

A year on from its final investment decision in the Balranald project in NSW, Iluka has begun developing the site via remotely operated underground mining technology.

“During the quarter engineering activity peaked; construction of the site access road commenced; and procurement activities continued,” Iluka said.

“Consistent with Iluka’s disciplined approach to production throughout its operational and project portfolio, the company will calibrate Balranald’s commissioning schedule in line with market conditions.”

During the fourth quarter of 2023, Iluka spent $3.8 million on exploration and completed 11,566m of drilling across its projects.
