Compared to February 2024, NIO’s February 2025 sales rose 62.2%. In total, 13,192 vehicles were delivered, versus 8,132 in February 2024.

That said, recall that NIO launched a new brand in recent months. So, the NIO brand saw 9,143 sales (a slight increase over February 2024), while new brand ONVO scored 4,049 sales (up from zero a year prior).

NIO’s cumulative deliveries thus reached 698,619 on the last day of February.

Extrapolating 13,192 sales across 12 months, that would be an annual rate of 158,304 sales for the Chinese smart EV company. However, February is a very slow month for the Chinese auto market, so expect much bigger sales figures as the year progresses.

NIO also provided some stats on other aspects of its business. Highlighting the huge amount of travel around the Chinese New Year holiday, NIO noted that it provided more than 1.7 million battery swaps from January 22 to February 5, 2025! At its busiest station, it performed as many as 180 swaps per day.

Showing just how popular battery swapping is, the company proclaimed that “over 80% of our users’ energy replenishment on highways was accomplished through power swaps.” Also, “over 21,000 flexible battery upgrades were provided, further enhancing the long-distance travel experience.”

Overall, it’s mind boggling to consider those numbers, and it also just emphasizes to me that a large portion of people prefer battery swapping over charging. One has to wonder, if all EV companies offered battery swapping like NIO does, what would the market look like? It seems to me that NIO nailed it with this option, but I guess the jury is out to some degree until NIO becomes profitable.
