A decade ago, this would have seemed wild — an electric Nissan crossover with more than 200 miles of range for less than $40,000, and access to Tesla Superchargers. That’s where we are, though. (It does make you wonder where we will be in another 10 years.)

Details on the 2025 Nissan ARIYA are out, and it is a genuinely compelling electric offering offering good value for the money. The design doesn’t call out to me, but for people who it does call out to, they can be happy to know they are getting a good overall package. (Gone are the days of Nissan LEAFs with less than 100 miles of range and no real battery management.)

The starting MSRP for the ARIYA is $39,770 with the new model year, with wireless phone charging now standard. That base model offers 216 miles of range. It also comes with Tesla Supercharging access if you pay $235 for the NACS adapter kit (that’s right, Nissan isn’t providing the adapter pro bono as some companies are), and vehicles will be produced with the NACS charging port at some point in 2025.

Notably, there’s a big difference in range between the base model and higher-trim, slightly higher-priced model trims. Here’s pricing and range:

At 289 miles for $44,370, I think the Evolve+ FWD looks like an especially attractive option. Of course, I live in Florida where FWD is all anyone needs.

The ARIYA got an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK award, which is not the highest level (TOP SAFETY PICK+), but it’s second best.

“Helping to make it simpler to switch to an electric vehicle, the Nissan Ariya is covered by the EV Carefree+ customer care initiative. EV Carefree+ gives owners a positive, stress-free experience with their EV,” Nissan adds. That provides the following based on a 2022 announcement (presumably it’s all the same, since this is what Nissan linked to):

  • EV Charging Assistance: Nissan is providing buyers or lessees of the 2023 Ariya and LEAF with complimentary charging offers on one of the nation’s largest public fast charging networks, EVgo. Ariya buyers and lessees receive one year of unlimited public charging1 with EVgo, while LEAF buyers and lessees receive a $100 charging credit with EVgo2. In addition, Nissan provides owners with a seamless home charging solution in collaboration with Wallbox3. Nissan also has the largest network of high-speed EV chargers at U.S. dealerships4.
  • Included Maintenance: Scheduled maintenance for Nissan EVs is included for three years or 36,000 miles. All service is performed by Nissan-trained technicians at EV-certified dealerships. A Tire Hazard Protection plan is also included, keeping owners covered in case of tire damage.
  • EV Battery Health Assurance: Every Nissan EV comes with an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty. When it’s time for service, Nissan’s network of experienced EV technicians provide comprehensive multi-point, EV-specific inspection reports.
  • EV Roadside Assistance: EV owners are covered by 24/7 Roadside Assistance, including out-of-charge towing to the nearest Nissan dealership, charging location or even the owner’s residence. Roadside Assistance coverage is active for three years or 36,000 miles from purchase5.

That doesn’t seem revolutionary, but knowing how reticent many people are to change, and particularly technological change and the switch to EVs, it looks like a nice comfort package to take any stress out of potential buyers’ minds.

All in all, the ARIYA is a good package that provides a lot of options. It’s no wonder the model is seeing more than 5,000 sales a quarter — it should be seeing at least three times that number.
