Deep Fission Welcomes Former Kairos Power Executive as VP of Engineering

BERKELEY, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Deep Fission Inc., a nuclear energy company transforming the industry by placing small modular reactors (SMRs) a mile underground, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Mark Pérès as Vice President of Engineering. Bringing over four decades of industry experience, Pérès’ hire underscores Deep Fission’s commitment to building a world-class engineering team dedicated to delivering safe and reliable carbon-free energy.

Before joining Deep Fission, Pérès held prominent engineering, design, and project management roles across the sector. He previously served as Vice President of Engineering at Kairos Power, where he led the engineering and project management teams designing the Hermes Test Reactor. He also held key positions at NuScale Power, Fluor, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hanford K Basins Spent Nuclear Fuel and Liquid Waste Treatment facilities. He started his career as a Reactor Operator at the Fast Flux Test Facility, a 400 MWt sodium cooled fast spectrum reactor.

Pérès is a lifelong learner currently pursuing a PhD in Nuclear Engineering at the University of South Carolina, where he also serves as an adjunct professor. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Montana State University and a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University. Additionally, he is a registered Professional Engineer in Washington State and a certified Project Management Professional.
