The Indian solar power market continues to grow, and that now includes a gigantic 431-megawatt (MW) solar power plant.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) is behind the power plant. Tata Power is a major player in the Indian electricity market, and subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited is particularly focused on green electricity. It seems the economics of these power plants just get better and better.
“Perceived to be one of India’s most cost-effective bids for large-scale solar energy production, the project was won through a competitive bidding process,” Masdar writes.
The project spans 1636 acres, Tata Power notes. The company adds that this is the first power plant in India using certain “cutting edge” solar technology. By that, they are referring to a combo of single-axis trackers and bi-facial modules. As a result of that, the efficiency of the plant is more than 15% higher. “The project is extremely innovative and was built by successfully overcoming several challenges, including rocky terrain, transmission line readiness, and remote site logistics,” Tata Power adds.
India is likely to be the most populated country in the world before long, and it’s lacking a great deal of electricity supply already, so it desperately needs as much cheap, innovative solar power as possible. It’s good to see improvements in the industry coming to India.
“We are thrilled to announce the successful commissioning of the 431 MW DC solar project in Neemuch. At Tata Power Renewables, we are proud to lead the way towards a greener future for India and this project is a testament to our commitment to sustainable energy and innovation while working tirelessly to enhance efficiency and reliability in India’s solar sector,” Mr. Deepesh Nanda, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, says. “We are confident that this project will not only reduce our carbon footprint but also strengthen our role in powering key infrastructure, including Western Central Railways and Madhya Pradesh Power Management Co. Ltd.”
“We are pleased to partner with Tata Power Renewables on the successful commissioning of the 431 MW DC solar project. This project not only demonstrates the viability of cost-effective solar energy, with a winning bid price but also highlights the potential of sustainable energy solutions to drive India’s green energy transition,” Mr. Manu Srivastava (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary, New and Renewable Energy Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh, added. “By combining innovative technology and engineering excellence, we are proud to contribute to the country’s renewable energy goals.”
Good work there, Tata Power Renewable Energy and Madhya Pradesh.
